Some prominent Nigerians including former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, renowned political economist, Prof. Pat Utomi and a former president of the NigeriaN Bar Association (NBA), Dr. Olisa Agbakoba on Tuesday floated a new political movement ahead of the 2019 elections.

The movement known as the National Intervention Movement which is expected to serve as an intervention force to rescue the Nigerian citizenry from those they described as political predators also has Dr. Abdul – Jhalil Tafawa Balewa, Comrade Isa Aremu, a former Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and General Secretary of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria as members.

The group which met in Abuja to deliberate on the state of the nation, expressed disenchantment with the trend of political activities and the dismal level of leadership in the country.

Responding to questions from journalists at the unveiling of the political group, Olisa Agbakoba, who was named as the head of the group’s steering committee said the group had a Pan- Nigerian mission and vowed to mobilize the Nigerian populace towards effecting the real change they desired.

“If we start from saying that Nigeria is failing or is a failed state, we have about 180 million people who do not take part in the political discourse. If we can get this political movement and get these people to make a political choice, that with be the difference,”  Agbakoba said.
