Lobbying appears to be in top gear at the Senate as there are apparent moves by majority of the lawmakers to override President Muhammadu Buhari if he decides to veto the recent amendment of the Electoral Act which reordered the sequence of elections in the country.

Many close watchers believe that the Upper Chamber may soon slam sanctions on Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and nine other senators for alleging that the amendment to the Electoral Act was targeted at President Buhari over his re-election ambition in 2019.

The 10 pro-Buhari senators who rejected the new sequence of elections adopted by the Senate had alleged that the action of Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki was a baseless and selfish move meant to challenge the President’s re-election move.

Reports from the Presidency say Buhari had been advised not to append his signature to the bill because he was the reason behind the election sequence which was different from what the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had rolled out for the conduct of the 2019 general elections in the country.

Sources say senators loyal to Saraki have also decided to tackle the developments by investigating any senator linked to the plot to rubbish the authority of the Senate which may be followed by suspensions which may last up to a year.
