South Africa’s anti-apartheid icon, Archbishop Desmond Tutu was on Thursday hospitalized in Cape Town  for a series of tests.

A statement released by his office said Tutu was in good spirit after settling into his ward at the hospital.

“”The Archbishop was in good spirits after settling into his ward. He hopes to be back home in a few days,” the statement read.

The Nobel Peace laureate who will turn 87 in ten days was last admitted to hospital in September 2016 when he underwent a minor surgery.

During that year, he was hospitalized four times for a persistent infection that his foundation said was a consequence of the prostate cancer treatment he had been receiving for nearly twenty years.

The retired, much-loved retired archbishop of Cape Town was also put under close watch at a hospital in 2015 over an infection, which was also a result of the prostate cancer treatment.

Tutu gained worldwide prominence for his strong opposition to white-minority rule in South Africa. He also won the Nobel Peace Price in 1984.
