The Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari on Thursday said that he was prepared to quit his position if the declaration of state of emergency in the state will take care of its security challenges.
Yari, who stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after he held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja said the issue of armed banditry in Zamfara State was being exaggerated.
While noting that the security situation in the state has improved in recent weeks, Governor Yari said the bandits who are responsible for the insecurity breed their cattle in the forest and only strike occasionally.
Yari said: “There is no place being occupied by the armed bandits in Zamfara State. They live and operate in the forest. They strike and run. Most of the camps are known by locals.”
On his decision to support the declaration a state of emergency in Zamfara, the governor said he was not politicizing the issue, adding: “We are talking about human lives here. If that is what will stop this thing, I am ready to step down.”
