No less than 30 people were killed in Borno State after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated on a crowded bridge on Monday evening.

Eyewitness accounts said the bomb detonated at about 5.00 pm local time on a crowded bridge in the market town of Gamboru which leads into neighboring Cameroon.

The witnesses said more than 30 persons were killed while another 35  who were injured in the blast were taken to the local hospital for treatment.

Sources within the Civilian Joint Task Force ( JTF), a group of citizens formed to fight Boko Haram terrorists in northeastern Nigeria confirmed the attack and the early death toll estimates.

Although no group has immediately taken responsibility for the bomb attack, the activities of both Boko Haram and the offshoot of Islamic State known as Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the region have been very deadly in recent times.
