Nigerian chef, Hilda Effiong Bassey, widely known as Hilda Baci, has made waves in the culinary world by surpassing the current Guinness World Record holder. In a remarkable display of skill and endurance, Baci is now on track to break the Guinness World Record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual,” having already reached an impressive milestone of 87 hours and 50 minutes.

The ambitious restaurateur embarked on her record-breaking journey on Thursday, igniting her cooker at 4 pm, and tirelessly cooking her way to victory. On Monday morning, Baci surpassed the current world record holder, Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who achieved an uninterrupted cooking time of 87 hours and 45 minutes in 2019.

Baci’s cooking marathon is currently taking place at the picturesque Amore Gardens in Lekki, Lagos State, adding an exciting Nigerian flavor to this extraordinary feat. Despite the rain, Nigerians, including numerous celebrities, braved the elements to physically support and encourage the visibly fatigued chef throughout her ongoing record-breaking attempt.

As Baci crossed the impressive four-day mark on Monday morning, her perseverance and dedication captured the attention and admiration of onlookers. The culinary maestro has already proven her culinary prowess by emerging as the winner of the inaugural Jollof Face-off Competition in 2021, securing a grand prize of $5000.

The eyes of the culinary world are now focused on Baci’s remarkable achievement, awaiting official certification by the Guinness World Record. If successful, she will rightfully claim the title and be celebrated as the new record holder, solidifying her place in culinary history.
