Former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, on Tuesday, appeared before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriation of funds. Bello reportedly arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja in a black Hilux, accompanied by his legal team.
The former governor’s visit comes in the wake of a recent Supreme Court ruling affirming the constitutionality of the EFCC’s powers, dismissing challenges raised by states against the anti-graft agency.
This development follows a fresh case against Bello and two co-defendants, Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu, currently before Justice Maryanne Anenih of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja. At the last hearing on November 14, the EFCC requested an adjournment to November 27, citing the ongoing 30-day window for the summons issued to Bello.
While the EFCC granted administrative bail to Bello’s co-defendants, the court awaits his formal arraignment.
