Governor Umar Bago of Niger State has suspended all traditional Sallah celebrations, including the Durbar and Hawan Bariki, in honour of victims of the recent flood in Mokwa. The directive, announced on Wednesday by Secretary to the State Government, Abubakar Usman, follows the displacement and loss of lives caused by the disaster.
Bago expressed condolences to affected families and urged citizens to mark Eid with prayers, acts of charity, and solidarity. The governor emphasized compassion over ceremony, noting the cancellations reflect the state’s focus on humanitarian needs.
He assured residents of ongoing relief efforts and long-term plans to prevent future flood disasters, calling for unity and resilience as the state mourns.
