Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic who were abducted by gunmen in the Saapade area of the state.
The students were reportedly kidnapped on April 27 after armed assailants intercepted them. Responding to a distress call, officers from the Ipara Division arrived at the scene and discovered an abandoned vehicle riddled with bullet holes, along with personal belongings believed to belong to the victims.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, ordered an intensive rescue operation, deploying tactical units and anti-kidnapping squads to track down the perpetrators.
Police spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation involved coordinated bush-combing and intelligence-driven efforts across suspected hideouts.
The victims were rescued the following day and have since been taken for medical attention after enduring difficult conditions in captivity.
During the rescue mission, security operatives engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, forcing them to flee with suspected injuries. No casualties were recorded among the police.
