President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday designated Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu to lead the consultation and reconciliation committee of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2019 elections.
Tinubu’s vast experience in politicking is expected to galvanize warring APC members across the nation and improve cohesion within the party.
The assignments Tinubu is expected to undertake will involve resolving disagreements among party members, party leadership and political office holders in some states of the federation, especially those controlled by the APC.
Prominent among the crisis and disagreement which Tinubu is expected to bring under control are those between Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in Kano State, Speaker of the nation’s House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara versus Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar in Bauchi State as well the unending verbal war between Governor Nasir El-Rufai and Senator Shehu Sani in Kaduna State.
He is also expected to find a lasting solution to the impasse between Governor Abdul’aziz Yari and Senator Kabir Garba Marafa in Zamfara State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi and Minister of Communication, Adebayo Shittu in Oyo State as well as settle the misunderstanding between Governor Adams Oshiomhole and the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun in Edo state.
The 65-year-old Tinubu, who is highly respected in the APC hierarchy has an uncanny ability to find political solutions to party logjams as seen from his interventions in the past.
